About the Venue of the Conference
The Department of Studies in Mathematics was started in the University of Mysore in 1960 under the headship of Prof. K.V. Venkatachalaiengar. The department turned into a place of active research in Mathematics within a short period of four years.
Facilities are available for research in the areas of Lie Algebra, Fibre Bundles, Differential Geometry, Ring Theory, Real and Complex Analysis, Topology, Functional Analysis, Control Theory, Optimization, Graph Theory, Algebraic and Analytic Number Theory, Special Functions, Works of Srinivasa Ramanujan, Theory of Quadratic Forms, Univalent and Multivalent Functions.
The department has established academic contacts with reputed Universities and Institutions in India and abroad, such as Carnegie Mellon University, USA, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy, University of Dalhouse, Canada, University of Illinois, USA, Paris University, France, Keio University, Japan, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Madras (Chennai), Institute for Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati, Ramanujan Institute, Centre for Advanced Study in Mathematics, Chennai, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, etc.
The University of Mysore is one of the oldest institutions of higher education (fifth) in India (established in 1916) that has been in continuous existence since its founding. The motto of the University, as engraved in its emblem, is "Nothing equals Knowledge" and "I always uphold Truth". This is the very first University in the State of Karnataka. The University became autonomous in 1956 and in 1960, the Postgraduate Centre was established at the picturesque environs of "Manasagangothri".
In the last over eight decades, the University has served the cause of higher education with distinction. Currenty, apart from 120 affiliated colleges, the University has 45 Postgraduate Departments and has a student strength of over 53,000.
